she was letty valadez back then. I remember my dad coming from heb once and telling me he had set me up with her on a date for that night. lol. that was back in the early mid 90s though. I went out with my friends that evening but not to south dallas as my dad had told her I would be at.

the mid 80s was the best time in mcallen. it was big enough and had everything you needed without the massive traffic issues, at times, I see there today. you all need a loop badly! this thing of driving a half mile then a light, half mile then a light has to go!

el rey and the palace theaters should've been archived as national historic buildings.

our elementary school would bus us to the civic center to see the nutcraker every year.

would've been nice to see the old stadium and central high school next to what became the boys club. a bank tower sits there now.

I went to Lamar in the mid seventies; It was a junior high by then.

At 1:17, that is NOT the Southern Pacific depot. That's the StLB&M (later Missouri Pacific) depot at Business 83 and Main Street. The SP station is the Spanish style building on Bicentennial Blvd at Beaumont Ave. The SP line was actually built by the San Antonio & Aransas Pass Railway, an SP subsidiary. The SA&AP was later folded into the Texas & New Orleans Railroad in 1934, the main SP property in Texas until state corporate laws changed, allowing the T&NO to merge into the SP proper in 1961.

I enjoyed growing up there, but I gotta admit. As an adult, I learned that even graduating from college ain't gonna get you a decent paying job down there. Proud to be from Tenessee now and as for the valley, good riddance. Y'all can keep fighting your own people and envying each other 🤷.
